Overheard on Tarragon Street

Have I mentioned that my 2.5 year old talks a lot? Well, she does.
Have I mentioned that it can really wear me out? Well, it does! She talks constantly, which mostly means that I have to talk constantly, and that's just not my style!

Now she has even started asking questions that I thought that like 4 or 5 year olds were famous for.

We were watching a nature show, and she was apparently listening very carefully.

She asked me, "Mamma, what is 'serious'?"

So I said, not having any idea how to explain it using her present vocabulary level: "Well, it means that something is important."

And she replied, "Mamma, what's 'important'?"

So I said, "Ummm, it means that something is a big deal."

And she said, "Mamma, what is 'a big deal'?"

At which point I squealed in frustration and banged my head up against the wall (not really, but this kind of thing goes on constantly, and it wears me out to have to converse continually!)

But I do my best and for the most part I keep my patience and attempt to answer all of her questions, comments and exclamations.

  1. *LOL* I can't imagine having to try to explain the meaning of words like that with a toddler's vocabulary. But, man, that child is going to give you a run for your money in the brains department.

  2. Oooooh - welcome to my world!! This has been the little changstein modus operandi since he could talk.

I introduced him to the game "Helen Keller" once when I couldn't handle one more word. Not one. The rules are that you don't talk, make a sound, or anything else. You make like Helen Keller. So un-pc, I know, but desperation won!

  3. Hahahaha and they don't stop talking as they get older. Now imagine 22 Esthers all talking at the same time and you have me in a third grade classroom trying to get tem to do their work. This is why I have a Headache every day!
