Life Status Report

I am going to try to write this kind of thing each Monday.
It will be fun to look back on later in life!

What God’s doing in my:

Life

Ever since the beginning of September I have been doing an in-depth study of the book of John. I read a short section of verses at a time, write down in a journal my own re-wording of or emphasis on verses that stick out, then I jot down some thoughts on that passage, followed by a short written prayer based on what I feel I have learned. Pretty simple, but very effective. I have not studied the Bible in this way for a long time, and I find that it helps me stay disciplined.

I have also been fasting one day every week. I choose not to “evaluate” fasting in the same way because it isn’t the thing you can run a “cost-analysis” report on. I fast to tenderize and position my heart, and those results aren’t measurable. Fasting is the kind of thing where, when you look back, you realize how crucial to your relationship with God the fasting was. I can say that this month of September has been fantastic and I base most of that on the fact that I have set my heart to fast for the purpose of experiencing more of God.

Family

Niklas is continually blessed with favor at his job. He has adjusted so well to working full-time and always enjoys going to work. He plays floorball twice a week for exercise and meets with his “little brother” once a week.

He and the other pastors are hoping to get people interested in a Breakfast Alpha Course that they will hold before the church service every Sunday. Niklas LOVES teaching the Alpha course, so I do hope some people sign up!

Both of us are filled with anticipation and excitement at the thought of our upcoming adoption. We are still in the middle of the home study, but now that it is finally underway it feels like we are moving forward. We are praying that our baby, wherever he/she is and at whatever stage of development, will be surrounded by God’s love and know that he/she is wanted and longed for even now!

Ministry

I am so thankful and blessed that two other ladies are going to help out with God’s Super School this fall. We will have a rotating schedule, meaning I won’t have to come up with a lesson each week. This is good both for me and for the kids. Prisca and Annette are really great with kids and I am looking forward to seeing how Sunday School progresses as a result of their input.

In God’s Super School we are also reading the Gospel of John, but in a way 7-10 year olds would understand. We also have the “SuperKid of the Week” who gets all kinds of fun privileges, as well as candy and a toy, and then gets to sit in the Hot Seat at the end of Sunday school for prayer and a blessing.

I am praying that more non-churched kids will come and join us this fall!

Schooling

I LOVE the course I am taking, Molecular Medicine. Instead of reading big fat textbooks we are reading the newest scientific articles about different relevant topics in the world of medical research. Each week we have a different topic, and so far we have studied cancer stem cells and leukemia. I think it is REALLY interesting and I am so thankful that I don’t dread going to school each day.

I also go in once a week to a brand new modern lab that is doing groundbreaking research on asthma. I get to watch what they do and how and why they do it, so that I can get some experience in lab techniques etc.

That's my life right now!

I love that your class is utilizing current articles rather than a textbook. That's really neat! I must say I'm quite jealous about the content and format of that class.

It sounds like God is doing some pretty cool stuff in your lives. I'm very thankful to know that He is taking care of you guys like He is. Just that He's providing for your basic needs, but also your emotiona and spiritual,as well. He's such a good dad.
