I've been pondering these but I just can't seem to find an answer to mail the question. The phone question I think I've got. It will probably seem strange, but I think the most "important" phone call I ever received was the one telling me that my sister was pregnant. Being that she was unmarried and only 18 and it was very unexpected, it rocked my world. More than just that, it truly changed the way I saw the world and the possibilities that it held. I can still remember the way the world seemed to stop and then begin moving again in slow motion for what seemed like hours as my mind searched for a place to connect this new information to in hopes of being able to process it. Since that day nothing has been able to really shock me and nothing has made me more aware of the fact that what looks to be a bad situation can produce some of the greatest blessings.

I'll keep thinkin' about the mail one.....

Thanks Jenny!

That was a good one...and very interesting to read...I tried to imagine myself into your situation...how profound that now you have "hindsight" and can see what a blessing something originally "negative" can be!

One of the most memorable phone calls I received was from Dr. Mark Kopta at UE, telling me I had received a full scholarship to study there. It made me really proud and eager to tell my parents. And at the time I had NO idea at how incredibly important those 3.5 years at that particular school and location were going to be in my life, for completely different reasons than a free education!

I don't think I have a good "mail" answer either...maybe the letter letting me know I got into the Biomedicine program here in Sweden, which was a big deal since it was so competitive.

But the most telephone call we will ever receive is still some time in the future - letting us know we have become parents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

receiving mail from my mom. I would get strange letters, but the fact that she wrote me at all meant the world to me. It made me aware that I was on her mind.

As most know I am not a phone person, so this isn't really easy. But one night at college I just had this feeling we needed to have a prayer meeting due to some issues going on in our college. I was so conveinced we would that I put my phone nect to my bed so I could answer it when the cry came out. Sure enough the phone rang and they admited we need to get together for prayer.

ok...so at first while I was sitting here picking my brain and pondering what my most important phone call was...I initially thought last spring when I was talking to my bio-dad and he told me that my Poppy had passed away a few months before that, but no one could get ahold of me to tell me, so I missed the funeral and everything. Although I hadn't seen him in several years, there was always a soft cushy spot for Poppy and it was devastating to hear. Thankfully though I have a marvelous husband who let me skip church and everything else "'life" related that day as he held me and let me cry in his arms.
Which then made me think of the greatest phone call ever....it was about five years ago when I had gone home for Christmas to the frozen North. One afternoon when I woke up after having spent the entire evening and early morning hours goofing off with some high school buddies, my younger brother and sister were like,..."who's the guy calling and saying something about dating?"
When I finally got all the details and checked my voice mail, there was a message from Brian saying he had spoken to my parents and asked their permission, now he was asking me if he could date me! It was terribly romantic and I was a mushy hormonal mess the rest of the trip, I wanted to leave faster than ever. We talked on the phone EVERY night from then on until the time we were married 2 1/2 years later. He is such a wonderful guy.

As for the letter, I will have to pick some more for that one.

The most important phone call I've ever gotten was also the most terrible, dreaded call that you ever want to get. It was from my dad in the fall of 1999. I was at at Exxon gas station, filling up in Waynesboro on a drive back to Charlottesville, when he called. He told me about how the doctors had just told him that his cancer had spread too much and he had about 2 weeks to live. He died 4 days later.

Oh yeah I forgot the mail one - well this one isn't nearly as "heavy" as the phone call one. This one was this past Christmas and it was a package from my stepmom in Maine. Our whole family was opening Christmas presents on Xmas Day and every time somebody would open a present, I would shout out, "IS IT A SHEEP????" I don't know how it started... but I just started saying that every present was a sheep. Next present, "IS IT A SHEEP?" Finally we were down to the last presents and I saw the package that had come in the mail from my stepmom. I opened it and guess what was in there! A _________! (No, not a sheep, it was a book of Irish legends from her trip to Ireland.) And guess what else was in there! A ________! (No, not a sheep....it was a Celtic cross necklace from Ireland.) And guess what else was in there! A SHEEP from Ireland!!! Except I didn't even realize it until my sister started laughing and said, "OH MY GOSH, IT'S A SHEEP! BETH ACTUALLY GOT A SHEEP!!!!" That had us all laughing for the rest of the day whenever someone would say "I can't believe, you actually got a sheep!"

I'd have to say I had a similar phone call (obviously) to the one Beth did that was the most life changing.
The most exciting piece of mail was last spring when I got the letter saying I was accepted to vet school!
