Badminton, that most dangerous of sports.

Of all the sports that Niklas is involved in, the one that I didn’t expect to incur major physical trauma was badminton. And of all the equipment involved in badminton, the piece that I didn’t expect to result in a trip to the dentist for the first time in 10 years was the badminton net.

It’s true. When setting up the badminton net last night for a game with three of his friends, somehow the springed metal part of the net support smacked Niklas in the lip in such a way as to drive his tooth all the way through his lower lip and smash half of that tooth into little pieces that were subsequently spit out onto the floor.

So he came home last night with a nasty gash in his lower lip and half of a jagged tooth (the one next to his top front teeth) left in its socket.

It could have been SO much worse. It could have knocked out more teeth. It could have caused a hole in his cheek. It could have knocked out his eye.

So he is going to the dentist this morning to see what they can do about it the repercussions of his badminton accident.
