So, after much pondering and reading up on the subject, I've decided to loc Esther's hair. This is no small feat and will involve quite a lot of work and maintenance. However, I do think it will be worth it in the end.
Tonight after her bath I twisted up the hair at the back of her head into twists that were already tending to form, using Aloe Vera. I then finished them off with a star barrette (snap) so that they can hopefully start to loc up.
I've only done the back of her head so far because it is so time-consuming and because I still need to think through the strategy for the top of her head, where the hair is so much thicker and healthier.
She loves to shake her head so that she can hear the snaps clicking!
Here are photos of the work in progress.

I think it'll be beautiful. I can't wait to see the outcome!
Oh my goodness--if I were little, I would want those star barrettes! Those are so cute!
Heck, I'm an adult and I might want some of those star barrettes...
Wow! That's a lot of work! I think I'd be like her and shake my head all the time. :)
Så söt hon är i håret lilla prinsessan. / Isén
Love them! 'Course we're partial to locs around our house. Sparkle is still loving his.
Wow! That's cool! You can come and do Ayo's hair like that when you're done! She would love it.
