Currently...

Wow, was it ever a long time ago I had a Monday update.

A mixture of “working” full-time at the arthritic research lab and trying to keep up in the adoption paperwork chase has made for a somewhat hectic late winter/early spring. The good thing about that, is that it makes the time go by fast.

As I have written before, I am thankful to be done with the ten week research project. It was a learning experience, that’s for sure, and if I had it to do over again I would do some things differently, but all in all, it gave me valuable experience and insights into the field that I will most likely spend the rest of my life working in.

Today was the first day of my Bioinformatics class, which is just completely different. It will be interesting to see if I like this or not, because it could determine which direction I end up going in when looking for jobs later.

On the adoption front, ALL of our paperwork is now with the big fancy Notarius Publicus person who authorizes them or something to make them as official as possible. After that, we pay half of our adoption fee and then the papers get sent to South Africa. The papers will most likely be on location in an orphanage in South Africa by the middle of April.

Once that happens, the next phase of waiting begins. I am really looking forward to the feeling that will hit us once those papers make it down there. I can’t really imagine what it will be like right now. We will wait anywhere from a month or so to a year or so, before we get “matched” with a South African baby. There is no way to know or to guess when that day will come. Just be sure that we will make it VERY official when that day comes!

As usual, I am totally looking forward to coming to the US in June. This time it is for celebratory purposes – my brother and Kris are getting married! I can’t describe how much joy that gives me, it’s just so huge and awesome. I look forward to seeing Riley and Ryan again too, because they are coooooool kids. The only bummer is that Niklas can’t come because he has to work. He is pretty bummed out about it, and is trying to think of ways to keep himself occupied while I’m gone. He might go camping and use all the new fancy schmancy camping equipment he got for Christmas (how does making bacon and scrambled eggs in the morning sound?).

Next week we will leave for the island to see Niklas’ family for several days. I am hoping for sunshine and Spring weather and some quality time with Niklas on walks and such. Today and yesterday we had sunny skies, which have been GREAT, but no real warmth in the air yet. I am looking forward to that!

Tomorrow I will bike to school, and I am expecting major lactic acid build-up in my quads, just so everyone knows. Even though I have become really skinny somehow, I am NOT in shape. I definitely need these daily workouts, biking to and from school.

There you go, a concise update!

Thanks for the fill in. It is wonderful to know what is going on in your life.

A month to a year... That's quite a range. We waited about five months (Sparkle was born right around the time we were officially waiting), but the other couple who traveled with us waited over a year.

So what exactly are you planning to do for work? Will your degree be a PhD in biochemisty or what? Will you be able to take some time off when the baby comes?

Have a great time with family next week!

YAY MONDAY UPDATE! I really missed those. So what is Bioinformatics anyway? Is it actually "notarius publicus" in Swedish because that's Latin and in English it's notary public (side note: when I was young I thought it was "note of republic")?

notary public - n.
A person legally empowered to witness and certify the validity of documents and to take affidavits and depositions.

P.S. Praying for a short wait for your baby. :o)
